Canon History for the Character:
Gale was a highly-placed member of a Tribe in the Junkyard called the Embryon. All of the Tribe in the Junkyard were determined to destroy all of the others and worked tirelessly and violently towards that end.
One day, though, when the Embryon were involved in an action against one of the other gangs, a strange foreign piece of machinery in the middle of the battlefield exploded with light. When it was all over, everyone in the Junkyard now could turn into a demonic form, and they had the irresistable urge to devour their enemies after defeating them.
Sucks to be them.
Gale found that his compatriots were beginning to change. While he remained quite logical and refused to allow himself to be swayed by his emotions, Heat seemed quite aggressive, and Argilla became very emotional and refused for some time to devour her enemies. Even Embryon's leader, Serph, began to allow things like loyalty and honour to infringe on his decisions. Eventually, Gale came to understand that emotion did have some place, and learned to value and have loyalty to his comrades. He might not know the meaning of the words 'love' or 'friendship'...but he understood them on some level.
The Karma Temple, who administered the Junkyard, informed the leaders of each Tribe that the Tribe to devour all of the others would be elevated to Nirvana. And they all started to kill and devour one another.

What is your character's age and occupation (or rank) at the present?
There's no telling what his age is, though I mentally place him in his late twenties for certain background reasons that Gale is unaware of and which will therefore not come up.
